Project mission (in brief)
The Collaborative Centre on Ethnic Inequalities and Severe Mental Illness is a national initiative, established to provide the knowledge, space and networks to help reframe, rethink and transform the realities of ethnic inequality and severe mental illness. Their collaborative approach will reach into segments of society without a voice, using the principles of creativity, co-production and ethnography. The Centre will work closely with commissioners, policymakers and politicians, as well as public service providers and citizens, to create and deliver a vision of eradicating ethnic inequalities in severe mental illness and their fundamental causes.
Context and background
Queen Mary University of London, The University of Manchester and Words of Colour Productions have been awarded the Lankelly Chase strategic award to establish a centre of excellence on ‘ethnicity, inequalities and mental illness’.
We were asked to design and deliver a full brand strategy to this challenging brief.
Our design process took us on a journey to explore diverse outcomes, eventually refining back to a hand brushed theme developed by placing the letter ’s’ over itself. With many stakeholders involved in the design process, eventually the result was a well crafted logo that represented the complexities of the projects, yet simplified to communicate effectively the key components of the brand image.
